Welcome to CarbonSig
Why product carbon data matters
Carbon reporting is moving from company-level estimates to product-level figures. Several changes are driving this shift:
- Customers are asking suppliers for data. Buyers need the emissions of the materials and components they purchase to calculate their own footprint. Suppliers that can provide reliable figures have an advantage in tenders and long-term contracts.
- Regulation is expanding. Reporting requirements for carbon emissions are growing across industries and markets, and a growing number of them apply at the product level.
- Claims need evidence. Scrutiny of sustainability claims is increasing. A carbon figure without documented methods, sources, and independent review is hard to defend.
- Spreadsheets do not scale. Manual calculations take weeks, break easily, and are difficult to audit, update, or share.
Why CarbonSig
- Built for the product level. CarbonSig calculates the footprint of each product from the processes, materials, and energy that go into it. Company-wide averages are not needed.
- Faster to start. Build with AI creates a first model from a description of a production process and supporting documents. Suggest LCI with AI proposes matching emission factors and explains each choice.
- Recognized data and standards. Emission factors come from established databases, including Ecoinvent, IPCC, and US EPA. Calculations align with the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, and ISO 14067.
- Connected to the supply chain. Suppliers and customers exchange product carbon data directly on the platform. Repeated questionnaires and email chains are no longer needed.
- Verification inside the platform. Third-party verifiers review models, raise findings, and issue opinions within CarbonSig, so the data reviewed and the data shared stay the same.
- Full control over data. Carbon data stays private by default. The owner decides what to share and with whom.
What CarbonSig offers
Model the value chain
A model maps how carbon moves through production: inputs such as materials, energy, and transport; the processes that transform them; and the resulting products. Models can be built manually in the System Builder or generated with Build with AI and then refined.
Use reliable emission data
The Reference Data Library provides emission factors from globally recognized sources. Custom emission factors can be added from supplier data or internal measurements. Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs) received from suppliers can be used as inputs in any model.
Understand where emissions come from
The Sankey diagram traces emissions from source to product. The Bar Chart ranks the processes and materials that contribute most. Together they show where reduction efforts have the greatest effect.
Create an audit-ready record
Registering a model creates a locked, read-only copy. This copy becomes the permanent record for sharing and verification, while the original model stays editable for future work.
Share results with customers
A Carbon Receipt (CAP) states the carbon intensity of a specific product quantity, along with its methodology and sources. Carbon Receipts can be transferred to customers, who receive them as EACs and use them in their own calculations.
Get independent verification
Registered models can be sent to a third-party verifier directly from CarbonSig. The verifier reviews the model against the applicable standards, requests revisions when needed, and issues an opinion. Verified products carry the Verified on CarbonSig status.
Collect data from suppliers
The Relations page is used to request carbon data from suppliers, track their onboarding, and manage supplier contacts. Invited suppliers get their own CarbonSig account to build models and respond to requests.
Organize teams and access
Workspaces separate data by site, business unit, or project. Three roles, Admin, Editor, and Viewer, control who can view or change data. External consultants and partners can be given access without joining the organization's main account.
